How to join the online class

Thank you for registering for Saturday's online class, How to Have Meaningful Conversations: Introduction to Nonviolent Communication -- we are looking forward to seeing you there!

Here are some details about the event and how to get the most out of the experience:

A. Date and Time:

The online class takes place live on Saturday, May 23, 2020, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm ET (New York time) and will be led by Lisa Gottlieb, MSW, SSW, (Ann Arbor, MI) a Certified Trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication.

Please note: One email mentioned an incorrect start time (10:00 am which is not correct), so please make sure that you have the correct starting time = 11 am!

B. Joining the Meeting:

We will meet on Zoom, a free and easy-to-use video conferencing system designed for the layperson and available to anyone with a computer, tablet, or smartphone with an internet connection (or even by phone as a backup, although we strongly recommend joining by video if at all possible).

  1. VIDEO (recommended): From a computer, tablet, or smartphone, click this link or copy and paste the following link into your web browser: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85883678618

  2. AUDIO (as a backup):
Find the phone number to dial in your country (the U.S. is 408-638-0968)
    • Enter the meeting ID: 858-8367-8618 #

C. Handout

I have created a handout packet that will come in handy during the class. Please have it available during the class (I recommend downloading it and either printing it or having it open on your computer).

D. Best Practices:

Please arrive 5 minutes before the start time to ensure that your system is working properly and allow you to make any necessary adjustments.

In order to get the most out of this experience and also to make it easy for me and others to interact with you, during the class please:

  1. Turn your video “on” if you are willing and unless you have a strong preference to turn it off. I enjoy being able to see the participants during the session.

  2. Use the most private space that is available to you.

  3. Join the meeting using a laptop or desktop computer if possible -- this will enable you to see other participants on your screen more easily.

  4. Position yourself so that the brightest light in the room is in front of you, as opposed to behind you (this will make it easier for people to see your face).

  5. Enter your name into the name field. This helps me see who is present and makes it easier for me to call on people (Hint: Click the “Participants” icon at the bottom of the Zoom screen).

E. Follow-up:

If you enjoy this introductory class and you have a partner, join Lisa for a 4-week online class starting Saturday, June 6, 2020, "Creating Trust and Connection with your Partner.”

F. Questions:

If you need technical assistance or have any logistical questions, email the Registrar, Jeff Brown. If you have questions about the content or purpose of this class, email me, Lisa Gottlieb.
